Maj. Glen Eldon Fifield of Kerrville, Texas took his final flight to be with the LORD on April 3, 2016. He was born in Sterling, Colorado to William Earl Fifield and Lenore Marie (Gates) Fifield on July 8, 1921. He married Elsie Viola Wennerberg on April 10, 1947 in Cedarhome, Washington.\r\n \r\nGlen attended school in California and graduated from Corona Senior High School in June 1940. He then attended San Bernadino Valley College, seeking a draftman's degree, and following WW II attended CaleroTech seeking a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He enlisted in the Army in March of 1942 and was commissioned in the Army Air Forces in July of 1943. He went through flight training at Luke and Williams Air Fields and served on Attu in the Aluetian Islands, flying the P38 fighter with the 54th Fighter Squadron. He was honorably discharged from active duty in July 1948 and completed his 25 years of military service with the Air Force Reserve in March of 1967. During his life, Glen worked in many fields, including as a machinist and draftsman. He served with the Washington Wing of Skagit in the Civil Air Patrol and afterward spent many years as a bush pilot for a missionary in Mexico. He and Elsie opened a self service laundromat in 1961, which the family ran for 17 years. Following their move to Kerrville, Texas, Glen worked at Mooney Air Craft, then the Kerrville Veterans Administration Hospital, where he remained until retiring from Civil Service.\r\n \r\nGlen is preceeded in death by his parents William and Lenore (Gates) Fifield, wife Elsie (Wennerberg) Fifield, his daughter Rachel (Fifield) Gunderson, granddaughters Carrie Lawrence, and Christina Murcray, great grandson Josiah Robinson, and sisters Mabel Fifield and Jean (Fifield) Hegwald.\r\n \r\nHe is survived by his children: Paul Fifield and wife Sandra, Stephen Fifield and wife Charlotte, Ruth Lane and husband Stephen, Gretchen Scott and husband Joseph, Esther Andreason Wilson and husband Charlie, Mary Lawrence and husband David, Son-in-law Robert Gunderson, Philip Fifield and wife Liliane, Naomi Mutchler and husband Greg, and John Fifield and wife Sharon. Grandchildren: William, Christine and Andrew Fifield; Antoine, Stephen, Ronald Fifield, and Kimberly Wells; Daniel Rivas and Elizabeth Rabbe; Marcella Garcia, Fawn Murcray Gonzalez, and Joshua Murcray; Michael and Jason Lawrence, Michelle Nowacki, and Priscilla Robinson; Robert Gunderson, Louisa Hume, Roselyn and Matthew Gunderson; Shanna, Logan, Taylor and Kaylee Fifield; Nathaniel, Paul and Jesse Kane; Shelby, Justin, Shalynn, and James Fifield, Shana Boone, Markeith, Markesha, and Christopher Wilson; Christopher, Joshua, and Katy Mutchler; 55 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.\r\n \r\nPallbearers will be grandsons Nathaniel Kane (active duty USAF) and Jason Lawrence (active duty USN); sons Paul Fifield, Stephen Fifield, and John Fifield; and son-in-law Charlie Wilson (Army retired). Honorary pallbearers are son Philip Fifield; sons-in-law Robert D. Gunderson and David Lawrence; and grandsons Michael Lawrence, William Fifield, and Robert J. Gunderson.\r\n \r\nService will be held at 1:00 pm, Thursday, April 7, 2016 at First Baptist Church in Center Point, Texas. Graveside services will be held 10:45 AM, Monday, April 11, 2016 at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.\r\n \r\nIn lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be given to The Pregnancy Resource Center, 704 Jefferson St, Kerrville, TX, 78028.
