Gladys Saathoff Simon, age 72, of Kerrville, formerly of Hondo, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 24, 2018, with the love of her life, Andy, by her side. She was born January 2, 1946, in Hondo, TX, to Marshall and Amalia Saathoff. \r\n\r\nGladys was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Rosa Herrera; and brother, John Henry Saathoff.\r\n \r\nShe is survived by her husband, Andy Simon; brother and sister-in-law, Adolph Dewey and Alice Saathoff; 3 step-children; and numerous nieces and nephews. \r\n\r\nShe enjoyed growing up and attending school in Hondo. Gladys graduated from Hondo High School, as Salutatorian of her class. She loved learning, and after attending college for a year, went to work at the Hondo National Bank, where she learned the operation of banking. After working 17 1/2 years there, she met Andy Simon. They made their home in Kerrville, where she went to work for Chas. Schreiner Bank. \r\n\r\nStrengthened by her faith, husband, and friends, Gladys bravely fought cancer for 3 years. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the Faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that Day and not only to me but to all who have loved his appearing." 2 Timothy 4:7-8. \r\n\r\nThe family will receive friends at Grimes Funeral Chapels on Friday, July 27, 2018 from 6-8 PM. \r\n\r\nFuneral services will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2018, at 10 AM, at Zion Lutheran Church in Kerrville with the Reverend Dr. William Breen officiating. A graveside service will be held later Saturday at 3 PM at Hondo Cemetery.\r\n\r\nIn lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Museum of Western Art and/or Zion Lutheran Church.\r\n\r\n
