Gilbert Elizondo, age 90 of Fredericksburg, passed on Monday, March 5, 2018 in Kerrville. He was born in Baytown, Texas to Toribio and Dolores Elizondo on August 8, 1927. He married Amelia Cantu on August 8, 1948 in Port Arthur, Texas. \r\n \r\nHe went to high school at Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur and graduated from Lamar University. He worked in many capacities for Texaco Incorporated for 47 years. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the United States Marines. Over the years, he volunteered with the Knights of Columbus, various literacy and GED organizations, as well as Hill Country Memorial Auxiliary. \r\n \r\nGilbert was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years; two brothers; and one grandson, Aaron Elizondo. \r\n \r\nGilbert had a kind word for everyone and was a "true gentleman." \r\n \r\nGilbert is survived by his six children, Diana and husband Barry Cannon, Carolyn and husband Bill Block, Lydia and husband Vernon Selvidge, Linda Brandt, Rudy Elizondo and wife Melissa, and Edward Elizondo; grandchildren, Matthew, Ted, Mary Beth, Miles, Tiffany, Edward, Krystal, Becky, Tina, Kathy, and Theresa; and numerous great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed, especially by Berkeley and Easton. \r\n \r\nGilbert was beloved by all of his children and was always very encouraging and proud of their many accomplishments. Gilbert loved the Lord and said that when the Lord called, he would be ready. During his years in Fredericksburg, Gilbert attended St. Mary's Catholic Church and also Fredericksburg Baptist Church along with his son, Edward.\r\n \r\nVisitation will be at 9 am on Friday, March 9, 2018 at Grimes Funeral Chapels. Funeral will be held immediately after at 10:00 am. Officiating will be his son, Pastor Rudy Elizondo. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories. Ashes of his beloved dog, Holly, will be buried with him. \r\n \r\nMemorials may be given to Fredericksburg Baptist Church in Fredericksburg, Texas. \r\n
