G. Robert (Bob) Himmer, Jr., born in Baltimore, Md. on August 9, 1942, died in Kerrville, Texas on October 8, 2015, after a 7 year battle with cancer. \r\n \r\nHe is survived by his wife of nearly 52 years, Sally L. Himmer; his daughters, Cindy A. Mann and Susan E. Himmer; sons in law, Glen W. Mann and Robert M. Rodes III; grandchildren, Shawn M. Grubb and his wife Christina, Christopher T. Grubb, Benjamin R. Rodes, and William G. Rodes; and great grandson, Dominic Grubb. \r\n \r\nHe earned his B.A., M.A., and PhD. at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md. and served as a Professor of History at Penn State University for 32 years. Bob loved history, birdwatching, and especially Texas music, among many other interests that he explored in his 73 years. He derived great joy from spending time with his musician friends. We thank you all. \r\n \r\nThe family will have a memorial service to celebrate Bob's life on December 7th. \r\n \r\nIn lieu of flowers, donations can be made in is memory to the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians or the American Cancer Society. \r\n
