Surrounded by family, Gary Lynn Tolbert, 71 of Corsicana, Texas went to be with the Lord on March 3, 2021 in Kerrville, Texas due to complications from surgery. He was born in Borger, Texas to Merle and Wanda Tolbert June 7, 1949. He married Sue Tolbert July 3, 1976 in El Campo, Texas. After spending 40 years in Corsicana, they recently relocated to Kerrville to enjoy retirement in the Texas Hill Country. \r\n\r\nGary attended West Texas State University in Canyon on a golf scholarship. He graduated with a B.S. in Social Sciences and started his career as a social worker with the State of Texas. Following that experience he began his career in education and coaching, which he is most known and loved for. He was a teacher and golf coach with Corsicana ISD for 35 years. In 1984, he obtained M.S. in Education from Stephen F. Austin State University. He is well known to many former students as Coach Tolbert. He enjoyed all the days spent golfing at CCC, fishing with friends and travelling with Sue throughout the country, especially to the mountains of New Mexico. He cherished his children and jumped at every opportunity to spend time together. \r\n\r\nHe is preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Wanda Tolbert.\r\n\r\nHe is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sue Tolbert of Corsicana TX; daughter, Kristen Andreasen and husband Andy, Kerrville TX; son Shane Tolbert and fiancé, Gina Lutz, Santa Fe NM; brother, Terry Tolbert and wife Debbie Tolbert ,Gilmer TX; Nephews, Travis Tolbert and wife Becky ,Hutto TX, Barry Tolbert, Dallas TX ;mother-in-law Mary Heard, Kerrville TX; brothers-in-law Jack and Carol Heard, Conroe TX, Clint and Peggy Heard , Montgomery TX, Allen and Barbara Heard, Metairie LA; nieces Jacklyn and Jeff Smejkal, Woodlands TX, Megan and Tyler Seay Montgomery TX, Taylor Heard, Houston TX; nephews, Scott and Hailey Heard, The Woodlands TX, Michael Heard, Montgomery TX, Jack Heard, Metairie LA, Ben Heard, Metairie LA.\r\n\r\nVisitation will be held Wednesday evening, March 10 from 6-8pm at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home, Corsicana TX.\r\n\r\nA memorial service celebrating Gary's life will be held March 11 at 11am at First Baptist Church, Corsicana TX with Brother Danny Reeves officiating.\r\n\r\nCondolences may be mailed to 374 Live Oak Lane, Kerrville Texas 78028.
