Finis Clayton

Finis (Hooter) Clayton, age 84 passed away March 25, 2015 at his home in Utopia, TX. He was born in Vanderpool, TX to Abner Wilson Clayton and Lola Mae Clayton on March 30, 1930. He was married to Martha Lee Tampke for 58 years until her death in 2008. In 2011, he married Billie McCutcheon of Utopia, TX; together they enjoyed travel and community fellowship.\r\n\r\nMost of his adult life was spent in Longview, TX working for Exxon. After 33 years, Hooter retired and returned to Utopia where he and Martha enjoyed many happy years traveling and reconnecting with family and childhood friends. He was involved in many civic organizations in the community. He served as President of the Utopia Chapter of the Lion's Club and was awarded the Distinguished Service Award in 1996. As President of the Vanderpool Cemetery Association, he took great pride in the maintenance and operations of the cemetery grounds. He also served as an usher and board member of the Utopia United Methodist Church. He was known and loved by so many in this community. If you met Hooter chances are you would never forget him and certainly couldn't forget his name. \r\n\r\nHe is preceded in death by his wife Martha Lee; his sisters Helen, Bernice and Addie Jane; brothers Harold, James and Slick; his parents Abner Wilson and Lola Mae Clayton. \r\n\r\nHe is survived by his wife Billie McCutcheon and his daughters, Sandra Clayton (Derek) and Rebecca Gilmartin (David); sisters Leota Hosman and Cora Mae Cochran; Grandchildren Clayton Lee (Heather) and Katie Lee (Brian), Great grandchildren Dylan, Tyson, and Amora; and sister-in-law Mary Ann Metz.\r\n\r\nFuneral services will be held in the Utopia United Methodist Church at 2:00 pm Saturday, March 28, 2015. Viewing will be at 1:00 at the church until the service begins. Graveside service will be held at the Waresville Cemetery in Utopia. Reception to follow in the church fellowship hall. \r\n\r\nPallbearers will be Keith Hosman, Johnny Abbott, Don McClain, Skip Doerr, Chuck Jones, Paul Goodnight, Roy Nast and David Rainey. Honorary pallbearers are Jack McClain, Clarence LeBouf, Sid Mauldin, Frank Jones and Jim Willis.\r\n\r\nMemorials may be given to the Utopia EMS or the Utopia Fire Department.
