Eula Farmer

December 1, 1920 — January 4, 2015

Eula B. Hiler Farmer was born to Daniel I. and Josephine Rollins Hiler in Sabinal on December 1, 1920, and died peacefully in Kerrville on January 4, 2015. After having lived in at least ten different places in six Texas towns (Sabinal, San Antonio, Waelder, Troup, Trinity, Gardendale) by age 9, she lived in Dilley for most of her life, with brief periods in Abilene, Mirando City, and San Antonio. Until after she was in her 90s, she would consistently say of Dilley, "I can't think of a place I'd rather live." Before she was old enough to vote, she began teaching in public schools-first in Mirando City, then in Millett, Moore, Pearsall, and Dilley.\r\n \r\nEula's parents; husband, Verne T. Farmer; and brothers, Slayden J. Hiler and Irvin D. Hiler all preceded her in death. She is survived by her two children and their spouses, Barbara and Bob Muller of Albuquerque and Therold Farmer and Janis Herd of Kerrville; five grandchildren, Carol Minella and Becky Jameson, both of Albuquerque, Justin Farmer of Woodcreek, Cherise Farmer of New Braunfels, and Minette Smith of Cathlamet, Washington; six great-grandchildren; two nieces; and two nephews. She loved each of them and they loved her.\r\n \r\nEula was a patient and kind mother and a friend to many. She laughed easily and often. She upheld high expectations for her students and set a good example for those around her. She genuinely loved people and quickly made strangers feel welcome. With a few questions that seemed caring rather than intrusive, Eula could get a person's life's story within minutes-a practice that embarrassed her children when young and gratified them when older. Eula was a serious and faithful Christian who regularly visited those who were ill, elderly, lonely, and less fortunate. Although Eula never owned a great many worldly goods, she was very generous with her time, her money, and her possessions. She had close friends in several states and at least four countries.\r\n \r\nEula's family expresses great gratitude to Vicky Segovia Trevino of Dilley, who helped her and cared for her for several years; and to the many kind, loving, and hard-working aides, nurses, therapists, housekeeping and laundry staff members, and others at Hilltop Village in Kerrville, where Eula lived for the last three and a half years of her life.\r\n \r\nMemorial services will be held Saturday, January 10, 2015, 2 PM in the chapel at Hilltop Village. \r\n \r\n[contact-form-7 id="73" title="Send Condolences"]
