Gene graduated into eternal rest and peace on February 4, 2020.\r\n\r\nGene was born near Waverly, Ohio, on October 20, 1926, to Anthony Porter Pope and Eulah Chaffin Clarissa Jones Pope. Gene grew up in the rolling hills near Waverly, in southern Ohio, and graduated from North High School in Columbus, Ohio, in 1944.\r\n\r\nDuring his working years, he worked in Washington, D.C.; New Orleans, La.; Guatemala; San Antonio, TX.; Houston, TX.; New York, N.Y.; Atlanta, Ga.; and Los Angeles, Ca. Most of his employment was with Texaco, from which he retired in 1984 after 30 years of service. After retirement, he relocated first to Arcata, Ca., before returning to Texas in 1994. \r\n\r\nGene volunteered in several different places, including the Cowboy Artists of America Museum (now called the Museum of Western Art), the Symphony of the Hills, Playhouse 2000, Smith-Ritch Point Theater, Peterson Regional Medical Center, and St. Peter's Episcopal Church. Gene was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church.\r\n\r\nHe married Marylou Anita Tinder October 9, 1954. To this union was born Marguerite Grace Pope and David Anthony Pope.\r\n\r\nGene is survived by Marguerite (Michael) Stirnaman and David Pope; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Edith Naomi Stiebritz and Ernest Stiebritz; and his brother and sister-in-law, Ralph Lewis Pope and Denise pope.\r\n\r\nMemorial services will be 2 PM, Thursday, March 5, 2020 at St. Peter's Episcopal Church officiated by Father Bert Baetz.\r\n
