Estella Calderon, 86, was called home by Our Heavenly Father on Monday, Jan. 1, 2018. She passed peacefully at home surrounded by great love. Many angels rejoiced and waited with open arms as she joined loved ones whom passed before her. \r\n \r\nEstella was born in Comfort, Texas on July 2, 1931 to Marianna Espinoza and Henry Vargas.\r\n \r\nThroughout her life, she always worked multiple jobs to take care of her family and took very much pride in her work. She retired from St. Mary's Hospital in Galesburg, Illinois where she managed the dietary department at the hospital for many years. After retirement from the hospital, she moved to Kerrville, Texas to be closer to family.\r\n \r\nWhile working at St. Mary's Hospital she always helped the doctors and patients with translation of Spanish/English anytime it was needed. In bad weather or if snow storms were coming, she did not hesitate to sleep a night at the hospital to guarantee the kitchen had workers to feed the patients in the morning. She went out of her way to help others any way possible when she could. She always made sure the job got done. Estella was a very good cook and was known for her delicious tacos and very hot hot sauce.\r\n \r\nEstella was preceded in death by her mother Marianna, and father Henry, her sister Yolanda Ayala, her 3 children, Lisa Ann Calderon, Alfonso Calderon, and Pedro Calderon. She is survived by her sister Olivia Gutierrez, grandchildren Mindy Arreola, Rodrigo Arreola, Yolanda Calderon, and Mercedes Calderon, great-granddaughter Leticia Analisa Arreola, and daughter-in-law, Maria Calderon, along with many nieces and nephews.\r\n \r\nThe Family would like to extend their sincere thanks to all the staff at Peterson Hospice. The excellent care for Estella this past year created a circle of friends that became like a second family to us.\r\n \r\nVisitation and rosary will be held at 6:30 PM, Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018 at Grimes Funeral Chapels. \r\n\r\nFuneral will be held at 10 AM, Monday, Jan. 8, 2018 at Notre Dame Catholic Church. \r\n
