Emma Forrest

Emma De la Garza Forrest of Harlingen, TX, passed peacefully into heaven on June 5, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. Emma was born and raised in Donna, TX on April 17, 1936. Her parents were Narciso De la Garza and Berta De la Garza. She now joins her parents, brother, grandparents, aunts and uncles who preceded her in death.\r\n\r\nImmediate family survivors include her loving husband, Tom, of 54 years of marriage, two sons, Rick, and David (Becky), two grandchildren, Madison Bree Forrest and David Tyler Forrest from San Antonio, TX, two sisters, Alma Montes (Mario) of Donna, TX and Irma Tamez (Azael) of Waterford, MI, one brother, Rudy De la Garza (Julia) of California, sister-in-law, Fela De la Garza (Ramirio) of Edinburg, TX, and many nieces and nephews.\r\n\r\nAfter graduating from Donna High School in 1954-55, she attended Pan American College in Edinburg, TX, where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education, Master's Degree, Supervisor's Certification and Superintendent Certification. Emma was in public school education for over 40 years of service.\r\n\r\nEmma lived her life surrounded by a multitude of wonderful and dedicated friends. She treasured her membership of over 40 years in First United Methodist Church of Harlingen, TX, where she served as teacher, UMC Women's Group, Chair of Worship Counsel, and many other church committees.\r\n \r\nShe was a member of Zeta Rho Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, lifetime member of PTA, Texas State Teacher's Association. Emma was awarded many awards for her service in many community clubs.\r\n\r\nA prayer service will be at 5 PM, Sunday, June 10, 2018 at Grimes Funeral Chapels. Graveside services will be at 10 AM, Monday, June 11, 2018 at Garden of Memories Cemetery officiated by Rev. David Payne.\r\n
