Eloise Massey

January 27, 1923 — October 2, 2017

Eloise Massey, a resident of Hunt and Kerrville since 1983, passed away last month in Kerrville, TX. She was born in Floresville, TX in 1923. She graduated from Corpus Christi high school in 1941 and the University of Texas in 1945. Following graduation she worked as a secretary for Humble Oil until becoming a full time mother.\r\n \r\nShe met Clyde Massey, her future husband, at the University of Texas in 1943. They were married in 1945 at the Little Church Around the Corner in Brooklyn, New York, where Clyde, a naval officer and mechanical engineer, was stationed on the USS Franklin, an aircraft carrier on which he served in the Pacific. They lived happily together for over 50 years until his passing in 1996.\r\n \r\nOn separation from the Navy on 1946 Clyde and Eloise moved to Texas City, TX where Clyde began his career with Monsanto. They later moved to St. Louis, MO, then onto Bernardsville, NJ as Clyde pursued his career as an engineer and manager in the petrochemical industry. On retirement in 1983, they settled in an area they loved in a house they built in Hunt, TX. Eloise continued living in Hunt until 2012 when she moved to Kerrville.\r\n \r\nEloise was a devoted spouse to Clyde and parent to her daughter Sherry. She was also a dog lover with a long series of miniature white poodles that adored her. She participated with, and donated to, a variety of civic organizations, including the Red Cross. In the Hunt area, she was an avid member of the Hunt Garden Club and Hunt Methodist Church. She and Clyde traveled extensively around the country, including many trips to Alaska where she camped near Denali, toured fiords with calving glaciers, and enjoyed the company of her daughter's family. Travels in the lower-48 states included bicycling trips in Arizona and hiking the Grand Canyon to Phantom Ranch and back. They also traveled in Europe and Australia, as add-ons to Clyde's business activities.\r\n \r\nEloise is survived by her loving daughter Sherry Dugan and her husband Bob Dugan of Girdwood, Alaska; grandson Tory Dugan (Kate) of Valdez, Alaska; granddaughter Darcy Dugan (Toby) of Anchorage, Alaska, and four great grandchildren: Lena Kennel, Suvan Schwoerer, Polly Dugan and Kai Schwoerer. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Margaret Baldwin of Fort Meyers Florida. Her son Larry died as an infant. She leaves Buttercup, her faithful poodle. She will be greatly missed by all her friends and loving family.\r\n \r\nThe family wishes to thank her wonderful friend and caring aide Teresa Rodriguez, the amazing Assisted Living staff at Brookdale, and Peterson Hospice nurses for the kind and attentive care they provided to Eloise in her final months. Donations in Eloise's name can be given to the Hunt Methodist Church and Peterson Hospice. \r\n \r\nA memorial service will be held at Brookdale on Guadalupe Street in the Riverview Room on Monday, November 20, 2017 at 10am. \r\n
