Elmer L. Castor, 97, of Bandera, Texas, passed away on June 5, 2021 in Bandera, Texas. He was born in Oklahoma on September 15, 1923 to Earl Wayne Castor and Elma Clyde Castor. He was married to Ohnoma Faye Castor. The following are memories that were shared by Elmer to his friend, Shelly Richards. Elmer Castor was a wonderful Christian man. He believed with all of his heart that God was taking care of him and would take him home to Heaven when the time was right. He said his Mom read the Bible to them every night. He dearly loved his family and prayed for them daily to be healthy, happy and safe. He missed being an independent man. He did not like to ask for help. He felt like he was troubling people. His passion was music. He loved to sing and took his wife dancing in his younger years. He loved watching the Grand Ole Opry on Saturday night and especially listening to Daniel O'Donnell. He knew many artist's names and sat down and talked with quite a few. His memory was amazing for a 97 year old man. He loved sitting outside with a "Tootsie pop" and a cup of coffee in his last years. He also loved Milky Way bars and refried beans from El Jacalito. He said that he and his wife loved to eat there. Elmer loved the outdoors and was a hard working man who started helping his Mom with the plowing of the fields when he was about 7 years old. He told me that he wasn't quite as tall as the plow handles but he could do it. He loved helping his Mom. He enlisted in the Army and worked on the motor pool because they needed him there. He tried to enlist at age 16 but had to wait until just before his 18th birthday. He loved his country and was proud to serve. After his time in the Army, he went to work as a trucker and worked all over the United States. He also loved his coffee. He said when he was around 7 years old, he asked his Mom if he could have some coffee. She poured him a cup and he drank coffee with her every day. Oh how he loved his Mom and his wife. He said they were excellent cooks. He loved his family so much. I first met him when I heard a gentleman singing "How Great Thou Art". I followed the voice and started singing with him. I was looking into the face of one of the cutest smiling faces I had ever seen. We became instant friends for life. He was a lovable rascal. We sang together and talked about our families and life. He shared some great stories of his younger days. I, and all who met him, will miss him so very much because he brought the sunshine into the room with his very presence. He is now happy and healthy with his wife and Mom in Heaven. May we sing in Heaven again. Elmer Castor was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his two sons, William Earl Castor and Doyle Lindin Castor. Elmer Castor is survived by his son, Kenneth Castor of Bandera, Texas along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 19, 2021, at 9:30 am, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in shelter number three.
