Ellen Juanita Childers, 86 and one day, of Kerrville, Texas died on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at the River Hills Health and Rehab Center where she had resided due to Alzheimer's Disease.\r\n\r\nShe was born in San Augustine, Texas on March 28, 1931, the older daughter of Otto Ervin and Ocia Ellen Brunner. She grew up in Jasper, Texas and graduated as salutatorian of her class in 1948 at Jasper High School. She later graduated from the Lilly Jolly School of Nursing in Houston, Texas in 1951.\r\n\r\nOn October 11, 1950 she married Marvin L. Childers of Jasper, Texas and they had 52 wonderful years together and had four children and lived in Houston, Friendswood, and Broaddus, Texas. She retired from Southeast Memorial Hospital in Houston in 1986 after many years as a CCU/ICU RN and along with her husband built a log home on heritage family property on Lake Sam Rayburn. She moved to Kerrville in 2007 to benefit from the care and support of her daughter. Through out her life she enjoyed her extended family and friends, reading, collecting art and books, and even traveled to China in 1992.\r\n\r\nShe leaves behind her son, Richard Childers of Waco; son, Ronald and wife, Janice Childers of Houston; son, Randy Childers of Arlington; and daughter, Rebecca and husband, Kevin Brown of Barksdale; along with 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She leaves behind her sister and husband, Dorothy and James Dunsmore of Jasper.\r\n\r\nA memorial service will be held on April 29, 2017 at 1:30 PM in the College Street Chapel of the First United Methodist Church in Jasper, Texas with Pastor Drew Weber officiating. An informal interment of her ashes will follow at the Old Home Place family cemetery in rural Broaddus, Texas.\r\n\r\nIn lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the "I'll Be Me Alzheimer's Fund" at ibmaf.org.\r\n
