Ellen Jane Allert passed away Saturday evening on August 24, 2019, at the age of 96. She resided in Bandera County for 68 years.\r\n\r\nJane was born in Taft, Texas on September 24th, 1922 to Alfred and Dora Nelson and grew up on her family's dairy farm. She graduated from Taft High School, then continued her education at Incarnate Word. She received her BA degree in education from The University of Texas - Austin. She taught school for two years in Sinton, Texas, then married her sweetheart Bob Allert, who grew up near Taft.\r\n\r\nShe and Bob moved to Bandera in 1951 after visiting the hill country. \r\nThey loved the beautiful hills so much that they decided to move to Bandera. They had two children, Marian and Mark. Jane taught in the Bandera school system for almost thirty years. She is remembered by many Bandera residents as their favorite teacher. Jane was active in the United Methodist Church and was Choir Director for many years. Jane was a very talented musician, artist and seamstress. She was an avid Spurs fan.\r\n\r\nJane was preceded in death by her mother and father, sister Peggy Brown of Taft, Texas and husband Bob, who passed away in 1976 at the age of 50.\r\n\r\nSurvivors include her daughter Marian McCurdy and son-in-law Mickey McCurdy of Bandera, Mark Allert and daughter-in-law Brenda Allert of Bandera, grandson Mason Allert of Bandera, granddaughter Jennifer Allert of San Antonio, granddaughter Rachael Allert of Crowville, Louisiana, sister Louise Carll of McCamey, Texas and niece Patricia Carll-Young and husband James Young of Plano, Texas.\r\n\r\nThere will be no formal funeral service. A private memorial service will be held at a later date on the family's ranch near Tarpley, Texas.
