Mr. Duane Lusk Whitlow, 82, of Kerrville, Texas, died Monday, December 11, 2017 in a local care facility.\r\n \r\nHe was born on March 13, 1935, in Belton, Texas to Ted Whitlow and Merle Lusk Whitlow. His parents and older brother, Ted W. Whitlow, preceded him in death. He is survived by his brother, Norman True Whitlow and wife, Judy Davis Whitlow, of Kerrville. He is also survived by two nephews, Thomas Ray Whitlow and son, Josh, of Liberty Hill, Texas, and Norman Edward Whitlow of Houston, Texas, and by one niece, Susan Whitlow Stotzer and husband, Eric Stotzer and their daughter, Casandra also of Houston, Texas. He is also survived by his dear friend, John Ruth of Kerrville, Texas.\r\n \r\nMr. Whitlow grew up in Belton, Bell County, Texas, where he attended public schools. He studied piano at Mary Hardin-Baylor College with Dr. Walter Gilewicz. In his early teens he was appointed organist at First (United) Methodist Church in Belton, and served as organist until his graduation from Belton High School in 1953. He attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas and The University of Texas at Austin where he earned his degree in 1957. Following graduation from college, Mr. Whitlow had a career of 40 years in the petroleum industry, retiring from Olympic Pipe Line Company in Renton, Washington.\r\n \r\nAfter retirement, he moved to Texas to be near his family. He was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Kerrville. He held membership in the Alamo (San Antonio) Chapters of the American Guild of Organists and he served as substitute organist at St. Peter's from time to time. He served on the Board of Directors of the Kerrville Performing Arts Society for a three year term, the last of which he was elected President. Mr. Whitlow performed volunteer service for Playhouse 2000 and Schreiner University.\r\n \r\nMemorial services will be held at 10 AM, Saturday, January 20, 2018 at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Kerrville. Interment of ashes will be in the family plot at North Belton Cemetery, Belton, Texas, at a later date.\r\n \r\nIn lieu of flowers, memorial gifts should be made to Belton Educational Enrichment Foundation, Belton Independent School District, 616 E. 6th Ave., Belton, Texas, 76513 or the charity of your choice.\r\n \r\n
