Dorsey Lee Spaulding, 82, of Kerrville, TX, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2016 in Kerrville, TX. He was born in Crum, WV to Lou Verna Bicking (Marcum) and Joseph S. Spaulding on March 10, 1934. He married Charlene Hubble on June 15, 1957 at the US Naval Air Station in Corpus Christi, TX.\r\n \r\nHe grew up in Logan, WV, graduated from Logan High School. He went to West Virginia Tech on a football scholarship for two years before being recruited by the U. S. Marine Corps. During his service with the Marines he graduated from Oklahoma State University at Stillwater with a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science. Lee's aviation career began with the United States Marine Corps where he flew combat close air support in Vietnam. He continued flying as an engineer, co-pilot, and later Captain for Pan American Airways where he flew to 58 countries during his 28 years of service. In 1983, he moved to Kerrville, TX where he became a rancher and a contractor. Lee has rebuilt 28 homes in Kerrville which have provided affordable housing to many families. He was involved in the design and construction of the Downtown Kerrville Pavilion, was a Founding Member of the Airmen's group, and served on the Board of Directors for Greystone Academy. Lee and his wife founded the Dorsey L. Spaulding and Spaulding Family Scholarship Fund, which benefits the youth of West Virginia.\r\n \r\nDorsey Lee is preceded in death by his mother, Lou Verna; father, Joseph; brother, Jerry Spaulding; and sister, Imogene Belcher.\r\n \r\nDorsey Lee is survived by his wife, Charlene Hubble Spaulding; nieces, nephews and great nephews.\r\n \r\nA Memorial Service will take place at First United Methodist Church on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Donna Magee officiating.
