Dorothy Amelia Tobler, age 79 of Kerrville, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2016 in a local hospital. She was born February 12, 1937 in St. Louis, MO to Rudy and Amelia Breuer James. \r\n \r\nDorothy's parents sent her to Margaret Hall, a private Episcopal boarding school for girls, in Versailles, Kentucky. She then attended Washington University in St. Louis, majoring in French and minoring in drama. \r\n \r\nWhile at Washington University and after talking to a Navy Wave Lieutenant, she became interested in the military. With the blessing of her parents, she decided to enter the 8 week Navy training program in Warwick, RI between her junior and senior years of college, going through her first two months of Officer Candidate School. After receiving her degree, she was commissioned an Ensign. She received orders to ComWestSea Frontier on Treasure Island in San Francisco Bay. She was discharged from the Navy in 1960 as LT(jg). \r\n \r\nIn San Francisco, she met an ET, James Rednour; they married and shortly thereafter, he received orders to Kodiak, Alaska. Her husband's transfers would also take her to Norfolk, Virginia, Charleston, South Carolina and Groton, Connecticut. Jim and Dorothy divorced in 1968.\r\n \r\nOn July 3, 1969, she married a longtime friend, Paul Tobler, and moved to Warwick, Rhode Island. She went to work as a computer programmer for Chittenden Trust Company. After four years, the data processing department and it's employees were taken over by Electronic Data Systems, which was owned by Ross Perot. Her employment with EDS transferred her to Mentor, OH, back to San Francisco, and Dallas, finally retiring from EDS after twenty years on April 1, 1994. Dorothy and Paul became residents of Kerrville in March 1997.\r\n \r\nDorothy belonged to the Margaret Hall Alumnae Association, Phi Mu Sorority and the Hudson Essex Terraplane Automobile Club where she served for 6 years on the board of directors. \r\n \r\nShe was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Kerrville and was past chairman of the Naomi Circle and treasurer of Women of the Word.\r\n \r\nHer husband, Paul, passed away July 24, 2003. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sara Ruth Rednour Wilson, on May 23, 1998.\r\n \r\nShe is survived by son, David James Rednour of Mesa, AZ; 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.\r\n \r\nServices will be held 10 AM, Monday, May 2, 2016 at Zion Lutheran Church officiated by Rev. Mike Williams. Graveside services with military honors will follow at 2 PM at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.\r\n
