Dorothy Freeman May Henley, age 84, passed away Monday, June 8, 2015 in a Kerrville care center. She was born on August 20, 1930 in El Dorado, Arkansas to Carnell and Ethyl Freeman. The family moved to an oil lease about 21 miles south of Monahans, Texas in 1934 because of her mother's health. The high, dry climate did heal her of tuberculosis.\r\n \r\nDorothy attended Grandfall-Royalty School, Monahans Junior High and graduated from Abilene High School. She pursued a music education at Hardin-Simmons University and taught Music Education and English for a year. She then moved to Houston to pursue a more lucrative career in industry, working for various companies such as Taylor Forge & Pipe Works, Ryerson Steel, Franklin International and Mesa International, ending by selling oil field equipment in the international marketplace. \r\n \r\nWhen the petroleum industry suffered a severe downturn, she moved, with her mother, to Kerrville where she owned and operated The Donut King for 12 years, retiring in 1995. In 1994, she married W.A. "Bill" Henley and gained a son, grandson and the "daughter"-in-law of her heart.\r\n \r\nDuring the years in the donut shop, she and her mother made many precious friends, moved their Eastern Star membership to Kerrville Chapter #24, where she was Worth Matron in 2014-15, and joined First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, where, again, they fell in love with many special and wonderful people. She leaves her love with all of them to share with others.\r\n \r\nOne of the things of which she was most proud was her approximately 8 years as accompanist for the church choir. All those folks held a special place in her heart.\r\n \r\nShe leaves much gratitude to Bill and her family that gave her so much love and joy; to Dr. Cathy Hurley for her love and excellent medical guidance; also to her Peterson Hospice nurse, Tammy Cornell and volunteer, Soyna Johnson.\r\n\r\nVisitation will be held Wednesday, June 10, 2015, 5:30-7:00 PM at Grimes Funeral Chapels.\r\n \r\nServices will be held Thursday, June 11, 2015, 11 AM at First Christian Church.\r\n \r\nPlease make donations to the charity of your choice, but most of all, love one another.\r\n\r\n[contact-form-7 id="73" title="Send Condolences"]
