Doris Putegnat

December 19, 1919 — February 6, 2015

Doris McKay Putegnat of Kerrville, Texas passed away on February 6, 2015 in Austin, Texas. \r\n \r\nShe was born in San Antonio, Texas to Lois and Harold McKay on December 19, 1919. The family moved to Brownsville, Texas where she and her younger sister, Janice McKay Cone enjoyed a happy home life.\r\n \r\nAfter graduating from Brownsville High School in 1937, Doris went on to obtain her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas in 1941. \r\n \r\nAfter graduation, as a young woman, she went back to Brownsville and worked at the airport as a flight liaison. She fell in love with a dashing young Cavalry Officer stationed at Fort Brown, Lewis E. Goodrich, Jr. They married in Brownsville July 26, 1945. In 1947, their first born daughter, Gayle Goodrich Curl was born. In 1949, their second daughter, Joy Goodrich Pruett was born.\r\n \r\nIn the ensuing years, they called Brownsville, Salt Lake City, Utah, Ana Marie Island, Jacksonville, and Pompano Beach, Florida home. \r\n \r\nAfter the sudden death of L.E. on December 12, 1964, Doris and the girls went "home" to Brownsville surrounded by family and friends. There Doris taught many years at the Episcopal Day School and Los Ebanos Elementary, loved and appreciated by her many students. \r\n \r\nIn 1968, Doris met a widower, George W. Putegnat and they married in a small, family wedding March 29, 1969 at the Church of the Advent, Episcopal, in Brownsville. They had a wonderful life with their blended families and many friends. They especially enjoyed being involved in the Charro Days celebrations, their church, and South Padre Island get-togethers with friends at the beach. There were many lunches and dinners also with family and friends in Matamoros, Mexico. They traveled the world, but always home for Thanksgiving and Christmas where Doris and George both cooked and entertained their families. There was laughter, picture taking, video going, eating, and even all 4-legged creatures enjoyed it.\r\n \r\nWhen George died October 21, 1991, Doris decided to move to Kerrville where she could be closer to her daughters and grandchildren. \r\n \r\nShe is survived by her daughters; son-in-law, Val Curl; grandchildren: Kim Walton (Jason), Brad Curl (Vivian), Jenny Jackson (Justin), and Lindsay Vieth (Craig); great-grandchildren: Brooks Walton, Malia Walton, Will Curl, and Blake Curl, Kylie Jackson, Jake Jackson, and Colt Jackson, Ellie Vieth and Gracie Vieth; very dear step-children, Larry Putegnat (Sharon) and Ginger Putegnat; step- grandchildren: Christian Putegnat (Holly) and Anna Putegnat; three step-great-grandchildren: Briana Putegnat, Connor Putegnat, and Katy Putegnat. Much love and thanks go to special family friend and caregiver, Sveta Guinn. \r\n \r\nRest now, sweet, Doris. You had a blessed 95 years!\r\n \r\nMemorial services will be held Saturday, February 21, 2015, 2 PM at St. Peter's Episcopal Church.\r\n \r\n[contact-form-7 id="73" title="Send Condolences"]
