Donald Leon Tietz, beloved husband and father and "G-Pa" passed away on March 15, 2018, at the age of 85 in his home in Pipe Creek, Texas. He was born and raised in Phillips, Texas, to parents Evan and Ida. He married Dorothy Tietz on April 29, 1977 at Jennings Store in Pipe Creek.\r\n\r\nAfter graduating high school, Mr. Tietz joined the United States Navy in October 1955. His training in the military served him well and he became an Air Traffic Controller - a profession he was very proud of and enjoyed immensely. Later, Don trained for a career in law enforcement, working for Thousand Trails, Bandera Sheriff's Department, and the City of Sherman, Texas.\r\nMr. Tietz was an avid sports enthusiast and loved his Dallas Cowboys and Texas Longhorns. He never met a man he did not want to talk sports to. Being an angler at heart, he would frequently find opportunities for him and his wife to fish at local lakes but was especially fond of ice fishing in Minnesota and trolling in Medina Lake. He was a ferocious reader and a remarkable history buff. He was fortunate to have lived and experienced many areas in the United States including Minnesota, Wisconsin, Florida, Oklahoma and North Texas.\r\n\r\nMr. Tietz is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Gordon, and his grandson, Clinton Feriend.\r\n\r\nHe is survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughters Sherry Hearn (Jeff), Karrie Groves (Bob), and Debbie Brennan (Erik); sister, Myrna Tietz Gamble; grandchildren Jessica Lawrence (Keith) and Amanda and Kelly Groves; great-grandchildren Asher Hernandez, and Kason and Kinsley Lawrence.\r\n\r\nThe family wishes to have a private celebration, but want to extend our sincere thanks to the VA Hospital, Dr. Shelly Kohleppel and staff, and the many family, friends and neighbors who have sent their heartfelt condolences.\r\n
