Donald Thomas Norwood, of Kerrville, passed away on September 8th. He was born in Cotton Valley, LA to parents, Thomas N. Norwood and Maggie MacDonald, on November 27, 1927. Donald married his soul mate Helen Louise Behrnes on July 7, 1949. Donald and Helen recently celebrated 65 five years of marriage.\r\n\r\nDonald enlisted in the Navy in 1945, at the age of 17, proudly serving his country near the end of WWII. He returned to Baton Rouge, LA where he attended Louisiana State University and received a Bachelors of Science in Chemical Engineering. Donald and Helen met in high school and married after they graduated from LSU. He worked his entire career in the chemical industry and they lived in Baton Rouge, LA, Houston, TX, Pensacola, FL, Kingwood, TX and Abu Dhabi, UAE. He retired as a Director of Refining with ADNOC and returned to Kingwood where he and Helen lived over 30 years until moving to Kerrville in 2007 to be closer to family. While his professional accomplishments were many, in leadership roles throughout his career, he counted as his greatest accomplishment the leadership and counsel that he provided to his four sons, his extended family and friends during a life committed to service of others. Donald and Helen are members of Trinity Baptist Church in Kerrville.\r\n\r\nDonald was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Maggie Norwood, his brother David Norwood, sisters Carolyn Norwood and Kathryn Norwood Fussell.\r\n\r\nDonald is survived by his wife, Helen B. Norwood, son Rob and wife Joyce Norwood of Kerrville, son Jay Norwood and Hyunhee Lynch of Austin, son Scott and wife Nancy Norwood of Austin and son Russ and wife Kelly Norwood of Austin. He is also survived by grandchildren, Dusty Norman, Amy Copeland, Katie Norwood, Sam Norwood, Alexis Norwood, Ashley Norwood and Dimitri Lynch. Great grandchildren are Bayleigh and Dakota Norman, Stephanie and Mason Copeland.\r\n\r\nVisitation will be held on Friday, September 12th from 5-7 PM at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville, TX.\r\n\r\nFuneral Services will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, September 13th at Grimes Funeral Chapels with Chris Christopherson of Trinity Baptist Church officiating.
