It is with great sadness, but with faith in God, that the family of Donald Gray Davis announces his passing on Monday, April 30, 2018, at the age of 90 years. Don will lovingly be remembered by his wife of 15 years, Darlene, and his daughters: Michal (Frank) Delgado, Donna (Bill) Fulgham, and Meddie (Murat) Sucu. Don will always be loved by his grandchildren: James Childers, Amy Vaughan, Rebecca Schany, Candice Fain, Keilih Nyback Hagen, Maiken Nyback, and Leif Erik Nyback; great-grandchildren: Rishley, Hannah, Madison, Philip, Bailey, Dylan, Sydnee, Mason, Devin, Sean, Elizabeth Star, Garrett, Eileen, and Emily; and great-great grandchildren: Caleb and Joel. He will be remembered by his stepdaughters and their families: Kimberly Webster, Melanie Barber; step grandchildren: Alex, Sarah, Mysty, and Heather; step great-grandchildren: Olivia, Pharris, Jonah, Noah, and Skylar. Don treasured the relationship he had with his cousins Damon Pearson and David Ehly, as well as his sister-in-law, Lou Davis, and numerous nieces and nephews. Don is preceded in death by his parents, NS and Annie Ballard, brother Melvin E. Davis, his late wife of 50 years Ithama "Ikey" Davis, and his precious dog, Tuffy. \r\n \r\nDon was born in Lovington, New Mexico, on April 17, 1928. Don graduated from Tulia High School and University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. He was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the US Navy, and was awarded the World War II Victory Medal. He worked for 32 years at Mobil Oil as an accountant in various cities around the state, and then wrapped up his career in Tehran, Iran, and Stavanger, Norway. In his spare time, Don would be found at the American Legion or Elk's Lodge #2081, and sometimes, if you were lucky, he'd show you his dancing and bowling skills, both which were truly remarkable. Don would give the shirt off his back to help a friend, lend a hand to those in need, and offer a smile and a full belly laugh to anyone near him. Of course, we must mention his dedication to cheering on the Cowboys, the Spurs, and the occasional lucky racehorse.\r\n \r\nDon's life will be celebrated at 5:00PM on Sunday, May 6th, at Grimes Funeral Chapels located at 728 Jefferson, Kerrville, TX 78028.\r\n \r\nIn lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society or the Elk's Lodge #2081 in Kerrville. \r\n \r\nOur family wishes to thank our friends Pat Ivy and Dottie Liberti for the countless visits, love, and support, as well as Dr. Schroeder, Dr. Nelson, and the Peterson Hospice and Home Health nurses for the care provided to Don. We are eternally grateful. \r\n \r\n
God saw he was getting tired\r\nAnd a cure was not to be\r\nSo He put His arms around him\r\nAnd whispered "Come with Me."\r\nWith tearful eyes we watched him suffer\r\nAnd saw him fade away\r\nAnd though we loved him dearly,\r\nWe could not make him stay.\r\nA golden heart stopped beating,\r\nHard working hands at rest.\r\nGod broke our hearts to prove to us,\r\nHe only takes the best.\r\n- Author Unknown
