Rev. Don Murray, 86, of Kerrville was promoted to his heavenly home Sunday, October 5, 2014 from a Kerrville nursing home. Funeral services will be held at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at 11:00 a.m., with Dr. Charles Murray and Nathan Murray officiating. The family will receive visitors at Grimes Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, October 7, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.\r\n \r\nRev. Murray, or "Brother Don" as he was known, was born March 13, 1928 in San Saba, Texas. On August 18, 1945, he married Jeanie Weldon in San Antonio, Texas. They were married for 58 years, until Jeanie's passing on September 24, 2003. On January 15, 2005, he married Cheryl McClung Luger of Kerrville, who survives him.\r\n \r\nBrother Don's life was characterized by his love of his Lord, his love of people, and his desire that everyone would come to know the Savior he served. He was educated at Howard Payne College (now University) and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He was ordained to the ministry on April 30, 1950.\r\n \r\nDuring his ministry he served as pastor of the following churches: Purvis Baptist Church, Dublin, Texas; Lakeview Baptist Church, Meadow, Texas; First Baptist Church, Meadow, Texas; First Baptist Church, Muleshoe, Texas; Southern Baptist Church of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; First Baptist Church, Aurora, Colorado; Mississippi Avenue Baptist Church, Aurora, Colorado; Ken Caryl Baptist Church, Littleton, Colorado; and First Baptist Church, Kerrville, Texas from 1989 until his retirement on April 9, 1995.\r\n \r\nIn addition, he filled many other leadership positions in the Baptist denomination throughout his ministry, including President, Vice President, and Director of Missions for the Colorado Baptist General Convention. He oversaw seven different church building projects during his ministry as well.\r\n \r\nOther survivors include his two sons: Don Murray Jr. and his wife Janice of Abilene, Texas, and Charles Murray and his wife Karon of Frisco, Texas; four grandchildren: Jana Williamson and her husband Byron of Pampa, Texas, Mark Murray and his wife Mindy of Abilene, Texas, Angela King and her husband Robert of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Nathan Murray and his wife Amanda of Tyler, Texas; ten great-grandchildren: Ashley, Bethany and Colby Williamson, Kaelyn and Maylee Murray, Brianna, Asher, and Caleb King, Moses and Solomon Murray; one brother, Bill Murray and his wife Nancy of Port Angeles, Washington; and two stepsons, Austin Luger of Marana, Arizona, and Dallas Luger of Kerrville.\r\n \r\nRev. Murray was preceded in death by his first wife, Jeanie Murray, his parents Wiley and Nell Murray, brothers Walter Murray, T.B. Murray, Wiley Murray, Joe Ned Murray, sisters Anabel Stewart and Nelta Healy, and one great-grandson, Cole Murray Williamson.\r\n \r\nRev. Murray was a member of Sunrise Baptist Church of Kerrville.
