Donaldson "Don" McClure of Kerrville passed away Monday, April 26, surrounded by 7 of his 8 children and his daughter-in-law. Don, 88, fought courageously to overcome critical injuries sustained in a car accident in Kerrville on April 19th. \r\n \r\nDon was born in 1928 in Pomona, CA. He lived his first 68 years in Pomona, California where he married Lorie (Dunlavy) McClure with whom he had eight children. Don moved to Kerrville in 1992 with his wife Joyce (Hubbert) McClure, who also preceded him in death.\r\n \r\nDon is survived by his wife, Llewellyn; his children, Bob, Christina, Dona, Patti, Ronn, Kathleen, Lori, Robin and Ila; his step-daughter Cheri, and his step-son Joel; his grandchildren Heather, Kristen, Casey, Krista, Courtney, Eric, Paul, Chris, Sean, Nakiva, Markus, Robbie, Jillian, Monty, April, Nicole, Ryan, David-Michael, Danika, Jason, Christianna, Faith, and Charity; and great-grandchildren Davontre, Jason, Allison, Talon, Gabriel, Cavin, Sabrina, James, Ian, Chevelle, Trinity, Kailey, Dakota, Albre, Izzy, Raylene, Elijah, Charlie, Jamison, Maliyah, Brick, Serenity, Luke, Seth, Abigail, and Hannah, and a multitude of friends and neighbors over the years, all of whom he loved dearly.\r\n \r\nDon was loyal in love and in friendships, and his faith in God never wavered. \r\n \r\nA machinist by trade, Don had the ability to solve extremely technical mechanical problems with whatever tools he had at hand. He was blessed with an intuitive knack to figure things out, which was incredibly valuable when raising eight children.\r\n \r\nThose who knew him would agree that he was loving and kind, and that his communication style could be described as Cowboy Irish.\r\n \r\nDon was a skilled Samaritan who showed anyone in need the love of Jesus by graciously fixing and repairing anything that broke. He was a doer, a thinker and a great helper. Driving 60 miles at midnight to help his daughter or her friend with a broken alternator was something he never questioned. He just did it.\r\n \r\nDon was a master mechanic, handyman, and creative tinkerer who had the skills of an Engineer without the university degree.\r\n \r\nSurvived by all eight children, his loving wife, and a multitude of friends, Don will be missed dearly. Our comfort is in the promise that we will see him again someday.\r\n \r\nA public viewing will be held at Grimes Funeral Chapels on Friday, April 29, 5-7 pm, and Funeral Services will be held at Trinity Baptist Church on Saturday, April 30, 1 pm with a short reception immediately following. Burial will be at Garden of Memories Cemetery, after the reception.
