David Lee Umstead of Kerrville, age 74, went to Heaven on Tuesday June 26, 2018. He was born November 12, 1943, in Richmond VA to Nancy Elizabeth Lipscomb and Harris Lee Umstead. Dave attended Crewe Public Schools, Fork Union Military Academy, and North Carolina State University, and proudly served in the US Navy. His character and faith were nurtured while spending summers on the farm with his grandparents, "Father and Granny" Umstead, in North Carolina. In 1968 he met the love of his life, Pamela Sue Douglas Umstead, on Waikiki Beach in Hawaii; they married in 1970. He cherished the love and mentoring of his in-laws, Mary Louise Naumann and Robert Douglas, Jr. Pam and Dave have 2 sons - Scott Douglas Umstead (1972-2008) and Justin Lee Umstead of Dallas. Others surviving him include extended family in North Carolina. \r\n\r\nWhile raising a family in Virginia, Dave excelled in several careers - auto dealer, trucking, private investigator, and marketer. He enjoyed hunting, antique weapons, restoring classic cars, and cheering at his sons' athletic events. Nearing retirement, Pam (a native Texan) encouraged a move to Texas. He soon recognized he was born to be a Texan and proud of it! He planned excursions and together they drove around the US living full time in their coach for four years, doing volunteer work with Adult/Teen Challenge of Texas along the way. They settled in Kerrville in 2012 and quickly became an active part of the community. \r\n\r\nDave was passionate about his faith in Jesus, and loved the Lord with all his heart. A celebration service will be held on Saturday June 30 at 10am at Impact Christian Fellowship, 2031 Goat Creek Rd, Kerrville, with a reception following. A family service of interment with military honors will be held in Smithville.\r\n\r\nMemorial gifts are suggested to Impact Christian Fellowship (www.impactkerr.com) or National MPS Society (www.mpssociety.org). \r\n\r\n
