Only God knows why some of us are called to Heaven when we are or why Cory Lee Bryant was called to Heaven on May 16, 2018. Beloved father, nephew, cousin, and friend, Cory was born on September 9, 1971, to Johnny Lee and Nan Nell Bryant in Peoria, Illinois. He lived in Edwards, Illinois, along with his brother, Brett, until his family decided to come home to Texas in 1982. They lived in Fredericksburg for a year before moving to Kerrville.\r\n \r\nCory was always athletic and started playing Little League in Illinois under the watchful eye of his coach and grandfather, James H. Bryant. He continued in sports, playing baseball and football throughout his stay with KISD. A member of the 1988-89 state semi-finalist Antler Football squad, he formed many friendships which continued for the rest of his life.\r\n \r\nAfter high school, he joined the Army and proudly served as a Specialist in the 101st Airborne, 2nd Battalion 187, Delta Company, 4th Platoon. He was an honorable man, and his patriotism and love of country continued until his death and, we are sure, beyond.\r\n \r\nAfterward, Cory was a jack-of-all-trades and worked under the direction of his father, Johnny, to become an awesome plumber. He was an accomplished musician and chef, and he left his mark in each of those fields until he was called to the oil fields of South Texas. Cory was an avid fisherman and spent nearly every waking minute either on the lake or thinking about it.\r\n \r\nHard-working as he was, Cory always placed his children, Courtney Elise and Hunter James, first. He was a loyal friend and considered each of his friends his family. His keen sense of humor and easy-going nature made it easy to laugh with him and enjoy his company. He leaves many "brothers" to mourn his passing. Too many to name individually, each of them will miss him greatly.\r\n \r\nHe was preceded in death by grandparents, James and Patricia Bryant; parents, Johnny and Nan Bryant; and brother, Brett J. Bryant. \r\n \r\nHe is survived by his children, Courtney and Hunter; as well as an uncle, Murray A. Bryant and wife, Linda, of Fredericksburg; aunts, Carol A. Lassey and husband, Harry, of Liberty, Texas, Deena K. Elliott and husband, Kevin, of Kerrville, and Christy L. Rynearson and husband, Dean, of Kerrville; and several cousins.\r\n \r\nCory was a wonderful person, honorable and true. He will be missed and mourned by many.\r\n \r\nHis life will be celebrated at a memorial to be announced at a later date.\r\n
