Col. George S. Oliver, US Army (Retired), known as "Sandy" to his friends, passed away on Thursday, April 26, 2018, at the VA Hospital in Kerrville. This past year it was clear that Sandy was battling the inescapable complications that come with living a full and worthwhile life. He was born on February 22, 1928, in Electra, TX, to W.T. and Sadie Nance Oliver. On February 21, 1953, he married Beth Kimbrough in Amarillo. A graduate of West Point, he served in the Korean War and Vietnam War.\r\n \r\nHe is survived by his sister, Shirley Lewis of Amarillo; his daughter, Kim Oliver and husband James Stout of Center Point; daughter-in-law, Daryn Oliver of Salt Lake City; and grandchildren, Sheena Smith of Center Point and Sean Smith of Kerrville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beth Oliver; son, George S. "Dusty" Oliver; and sisters, Martha Connelly and Helene Davis. \r\n \r\nThe family will receive friends at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 from 5-7 PM. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 3, 2018, at 11 AM, at Center Point Cemetery, Center Point, Texas, with full military honors.\r\n \r\nIn lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, www.jdrf.org. \r\n
