Funeral services have been rescheduled for mid-January.\r\n\r\nClarence "Clay" Dumais, 86, of Hunt, Texas, passed away on October 13, 2018, in San Antonio from complications after heart surgery. He was born in Madawaska, Maine, to Alfred and Bertha Dumais on May 25, 1932. He married Nathalie A. Nault on April 8, 1961, in Worcester, Massachusetts.\r\n \r\nHe graduated from Assumption College in Worcester, Massachusetts, and from Georgetown School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, and was officer in charge of the South Pole Station, Antarctica, during Operation Deep Freeze 5, 1959-1960. He performed the first appendectomy at the South Pole. A mountain in Antarctica, Mount Dumais, was named after him. He retired from the Navy in 1961, and worked as a cardiologist at the Fallon Clinic in Worcester, Massachusetts, for the rest of his professional career.\r\n \r\nClay was a dedicated physician. He believed that good medicine always put the needs of the patient before other considerations, and he lived his beliefs. His patients were people with history, family, and lives outside of the office or hospital, and he cared for them with skill, commitment, compassion, and integrity.\r\n \r\nHe was equally dedicated to his family. Knowing that a doctor's schedule is demanding, he made a conscious effort to make time to focus on his family and ensure his wife and children understood their importance in his life.\r\n \r\nHe was a deep thinker with varied interests. He served as eucharistic minister in his church, loved science, taught himself programming, shared his passion for boating and the outdoors with his family, plowed his neighbors' driveways in the winter, and delighted in thinking of reasons to use his tractor.\r\n \r\nHe is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Dennis and Dick.\r\n \r\nHe is survived by his loving wife, Nat; two siblings, Ida Mae and Phil; three awesome children, Guy (and wife Mary), Angeline, and Jules; and four grandchildren, Tom, Katie (and husband Luke), Mason, and Xander.\r\n \r\n
