Charles Smoot

Charles W. Smoot, 83, of Boerne, Texas, passed away on January, 27, 2015 in San Antonio. He was born in Delwin, Texas to Roy and Lucille Smoot on February 17, 1931. He married Anita Vehslage, April 10, 1955 in Childress, Texas. He graduated from Childress High School and attended Abilene Christian College and Texas Technology College, Texas Tech. He worked in highway construction for the Texas Highway Department in Childress, Texas and Kerrville, Texas; later becoming the Executive Director of the Texas Hot Mix Asphalt Association; from which he retired in 1997. He was also a Veteran of the United States Naval Air Force. \r\n\r\nCharles is preceded in death by his father, Roy; mother Lucille and brother, Wayland. \r\n\r\nCharles is survived by his wife, Anita Smoot of Boerne, Texas: Brother-in-law, Bill Vehslage and wife Martha of Leonard, Texas: Daughters, Cynthia Riola and husband Christopher of Pflugerville, Texas, Susan Sims and husband Robert of Lakehills, Texas, James Fletcher and wife Colleen of Round Rock, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews: Grandchildren, Ryan Carlton and wife Natalie, Travis Carlton, Wesley Fletcher, Rachael Fletcher and Lauren Fletcher: Great grandchildren, Isabella Carlton, Estella Carlton and Charles Carlton.\r\n\r\nFuneral services will be held at 11:00AM, Saturday, January 31, 2015 at Grimes Funeral Chapel in Bandera. Chaplain Dennis Smith of Morningside Ministries will be officiating. Burial will follow at Pipe Creek Cemetery.\r\n\r\nPallbearers: James Fletcher, Ryan Carlton, Travis Carlton, Robert Sims, Christopher Riola and Pat McMurry.\r\nMemorials may be given to the Lakehills Public Library, Lakehills, Texas. \r\n \r\nThe family of Charles wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Jaafar, Bandera, Texas and numerous healthcare staff at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio.
