Charles Linus Batto Jr

August 21, 1933 — February 15, 2024

Charles (Sonny) Linus Batto, Jr., of Bandera, passed away on February 15, 2024, in Bandera at 90 years of age.  He was born in San Antonio to Charles and Lydia (Ploch) on August 21, 1933, and was later adopted by Hazele (Greiner).  And he married Mary Ann Fisher on October 9, 1957, at St. Gerard’s Catholic Church in San Antonio. 

 He went to grade school at St. Gerard’s Catholic School and graduated high school in 1952 from Central Catholic.  After high school he served 4 years in the Air Force, before going to work for his father at C.L. Batto Cleaners.  He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from St. Mary’s University in 1963.   He went on to join the Navy Reserves where he later retired.  And after working many years at Fellowship Credit Union he retired and moved to Bandera.  He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, the American Legion Post 157, and the Knights of Columbus Third and Fourth Degree.  He served as the Grand Knight of the San Antonio Council 4315 and Navigator of San Antonio Assembly 1855, and a member of the Bandera Counsel 10258 and the Hill Country Assembly. 

 Charles is preceded in death by his mother Lydia, baby sister Ann, mother Hazele, father Charles, and wife Mary Ann.

 Charles is survived by his children, Lawrence Batto and Lydia Benedict (Jason); Grandchildren Jessica Campbell (Chance), Melinda Harrington (Justin), Victoria Colleen Batto, Joseph Batto, and Lauren Benedict; Great-Grandchildren Paisley Campbell, Kenzie Campbell, Everlee Campbell, and Vivian Harrington.

 A visitation will be from 5-7pm, February 22nd followed by a rosary at Grimes Bandera Funeral Home.

A funeral mass will be held at 10am on February 23rd at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church.  Burial will follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery on FM 1077.

 Pallbearers will be the Knights of Columbus.

 In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Silver Sage of Bandera, Peterson Health Foundation, or the St. Stanislaus Knights of Columbus.

 Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Grimes Bandera Funeral Home.
