Charles Albert Baker, age 72 passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 following a series of health issues. He was a life resident of Bandera County.\r\n\r\nHe was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on August 25, 1946 to Minnie Ruth Clark Baker and Blanton Gale Baker. \r\n\r\nCharles attended school in Medina, Texas and later attended and graduated from Southwest Texas University. In his lifetime, he worked as a ranch foreman, as a plumber, for the City of Kerrville and had been a high school Ag teacher. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam conflict. Charlie was active in the American Legion and had also served as District Commander; he was a life member of the DAV and the VFW; he was a member of the Combat Helicopter Association; past president of Hilco Federal Credit Union and active with the Bandera Junior Livestock Show.\r\n\r\nCharlie was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Gale Ruth Baker; his wife of 33 years, Claudette; and his second wife of 15 years, Pam. \r\n\r\nHe is survived by sons, Sloan Baker and wife Leigh Ann and William R. "Bill" Baker and wife Janet all of Bandera, Texas; bonus children, Rhonda Lefteau, Michael Ross, Lance Ross and Jessica Leister; sisters, Sigred Bernard and Della Baker; brothers, Raymond Baker, Clay Baker and Roger Baker; mother-in-law, Diona Smith; brother-in-law, Gerald Smith and wife Cindy; grandchildren, Colton, Shelby, Charles, Trey, Emma Leigh, Preslee, Danielle, Nicole, Cooper, Emma, Derick, Chelsea, Hunter and Claudette; great-grandchild, Landri Baker; and many extended family members and treasured friends.\r\n\r\nThe family of Charlie Baker wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Aleeta, Crystal, Tina and Larry of Alamo Hospice for their tenderness and care during this difficult time.\r\n\r\nIn lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Bandera County Junior Livestock Show or the Bandera American Legion.\r\n\r\nA memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, January 20, 2019 at 1:30 P.M. at Grimes Funeral Chapels of Bandera with military honors. The memorial service will be followed by a celebration of life at the American Legion.\r\n\r\n
