Carole Cude

May 1, 1942 — July 16, 2017

Carole Jan Cude was called home on July 16, 2017 at age 75 after a long and brave battle with Alzheimer's. \r\n\r\nCarole Jan Campbell was born on May 1st, 1942 in Elgin, Texas to Edith Pauline "Polly" Johnson Campbell and William Edward "Bill" Campbell. Carole Jan and her mother lived with family in Austin and Elgin until Bill returned from WWII. Eventually the family moved to Houston where Carole Jan graduated from South Houston High School. She attended Lamar College in Beaumont where she met the love of her life, Junias Franklin Cude. They were married on November 10th, 1961. \r\n\r\nJunias' career with US Army Corp of Engineers led the newly married couple on exciting adventures while living in Corpus Christi, Texas, Jacksonville, Florida and Anchorage, Alaska. Carole Jan enjoyed working for the US Air Force in data entry and later for the US Army Corp of Engineers in the cost accounting area in Anchorage. Carole Jan and Junias enjoyed their time in Alaska and spent most every weekend camping and sight-seeing. They returned to Texas in late 1966 and settled in the Houston area to start a family. Carole Jan and Junias raised their only daughter, Jennifer Suzanne "Suzy" in League City where Carole Jan enjoyed being a stay at home mom. Carole Jan resumed her education after Suzy started school and graduated cum laude from University of Houston with a BS in Accounting in 1978. \r\n\r\nUpon graduation, she worked for Tenneco Oil Company for the next decade and during that time she elevated to Controller over financial services, which was the highest ranked position held by a woman at that time. Carole Jan's extreme dedication and work ethic ensured that she excelled no matter what the circumstance. Although having a demanding career, Carole Jan's first and main priority was Suzy and Junias. She was the organizer and planner of the household and made the house a home full of love and laughter and fun times. She even made Saturday morning chores fun by belting out Barbara Streisand tunes along with the cranked up 8-track tape. The family spent weekends camping and enjoyed numerous summer vacations. Disney World was a family favorite as well as Colorado, the piney woods of East Texas and the hill country of central Texas. The memories made while being together on these trips will forever be with us. After Suzy graduated from high school Carole Jan and Junias relocated to Baytown in 1985 and later Beaumont where Carole Jan continued her career as controller for BFI. After Junias retired in 1993 they relocated to Kerrville where Carole Jan resumed her career as controller with BFI. She finally retired from the Texas State MHMR division as their chief financial officer in 1998 to become a full-time grandmother, her most favorite job to date. Carole Jan provided daycare/Mamaw camp for both of her granddaughters, Jessica and Jadyn. They were the light of her life. She created countless memories for them that they will cherish forever. She thoroughly enjoyed working with Junias on projects, too numerous to count, her favorite being the construction of their retirement home. She had an idea and Junias made the plan and built it, with her continuous supervision of course. Carole Jan was in love with her best friend and together they accomplished many fantastic things. They were a team, the best kind of team, devoted to each other until the end. Carole Jan enjoyed gardening, geniology, RV'ing, sewing, cooking, crafting with her granddaughters and anything that involved just being with her family. She gave more love than anyone deserved. She did things for her family that went over and above what most mom's and mamaw's and wives do. She made all of us the center of her universe and every time you were with her you felt it, her love was all around you. She will be missed beyond words and our lives here on earth will never be the same. Even though she is in heaven now dancing with Jesus, pain free and of sound mind, she will also be living in our hearts here on earth until that day we are all together again. \r\n\r\nCarole Jan is preceded in death by her father and mother. She is survived by her loving husband, Junias Franklin Cude, her daughter Jennifer Suzanne Cude Doss, her son-in-law, Don Doss and her most precious granddaughters, Jessica Suzanne Doss and Jadyn Elaine Doss, all of Kerrville. She is also survived by her niece and nephews, Jeannie Pearce of Port Neches, Malcolm and Barton Petty of Kansas City, MO and Los Angeles, CA respectively, Colin Campbell of Houston, Texas, her brother Ed Campbell of Port Lavaca, Texas and her Aunt LaVerne Pearce of Corpus Christi, Texas.\r\n\r\nCarole Jan Cude's services will be held at 2pm on Friday, July 21, 2017 at First United Methodist Church of Kerrville, Texas. \r\n\r\nCarole Jan's family would like to extend their most heartfelt gratitude to her caregivers at the Villagio care facility, her amazingly dedicated and caring Hospice nurse Nichol, the many other wonderful Hospice staff and volunteers as well as her longtime caring physician, Dr. James Young. \r\n\r\nIn lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org) and/or Peterson Hospice (www.petersonhospice.com).\r\n
