Carol Epperson

February 24, 1945 — October 21, 2014

Carol Hanchey Epperson was born on February 24, 1945, in Jackson, Alabama and died on October 21, 2014. She lost her battle to multiple myeloma cancer after five years.\r\n \r\nA longtime resident of Kerrville, Texas, Carol graduated from Tivy High School in 1962. She attended Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas where her father taught chemistry, and later attended the University of Texas at Austin. In 1965, Carol married Woodrow Epperson, Jr. ("Woody"). While Woody completed his legal studies at The University of Texas School of Law, Carol supported them by working as an Administrative Assistant at First Federal Savings & Loan in Austin, Texas.\r\n \r\nAfter leaving Austin, Carol and Woody moved all around the country, living in Midland, Texas, Coral Gables, Florida, and Mount Lebanon, Pennsylvania. Eventually, they returned to Texas and settled in Houston in 1974 where they raised their family and created a lifetime of memories. Carol combined working tirelessly and devotedly as an Administrative Assistant in Woody's law practice with being a loving wife and mother to their three children. In 1992, Carol fulfilled a lifelong goal that she had put on hold to raise her family by receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, graduating with honors from Houston Baptist University.\r\n \r\nShe was preceded in death by her mother, Kay Louise Hanchey Kirk and her father, Gordon Billet Hanchey.\r\n \r\nCarol is survived by her husband, Woodrow Epperson, Jr.; daughter, Carla Denise Epperson; her son-in-law, Philip Williams Cottingham, both of Austin, Texas; her two sons, Charles Douglas Epperson and James Woodrow Epperson; her two daughters-in-law, Jessica Werner Epperson and Erin Cooper Epperson, all of Dallas, Texas; and her six grandchildren, Lilith Eleanor Cottingham; Matilda Elspeth Cottingham, of Austin; Kathryn Elizabeth Epperson, Virginia Anne Epperson, of Dallas; Cooper James Epperson and Jack Sutton Epperson, also of Dallas, Texas; her brother, James Murrell Hanchey, her sister-in-law, Diane Hanchey and two nephews and niece.\r\n \r\nCarol was a loving wife and friend, a devoted mother and grandmother, who enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her family and friends in Kerrville and Houston. She often remarked how blessed she was to have such kind and caring friends. Carol was also a hard-worker whose honest and pragmatic perspective brought a sense of balance to all who had the privilege of being around her. She was a companion whose vivacity and enthusiasm brought a special joy to all those in her wide circle of friends and relatives. Her loving spirit and caring soul will be missed. The family wishes to thank Dr. Philip L. Cimo, the Memorial Hermann staff, and the entire MD Anderson Cancer Center team in Houston for their dedicated efforts.\r\n \r\nThe family will host a visitation at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville, Texas on Sunday, October 26, 2014, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.\r\n \r\nThere will be a service to celebrate Carol's life on Monday, October 27, 2014, at First Presbyterian Church in Kerrville, Texas at 2:00 p.m. officiated by Rob Lohmeyer. A reception will be held at First Presbyterian Church immediately following the service. Burial will be at Carol's home on the Guadalupe River at 520 Cade Loop, Ingram, Texas 78025.\r\n \r\nPallbearers are Bob Schmerback, Bill Matthews, Bob Sieker, Art Bell, John Putman, Robert Claborn, Jonathon Segura, and Ed Wallace. Matthew and Stephen Hanchey are honorary pallbearers.\r\n \r\nIn lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations in her name may be made to the American Cancer Society; Kathleen C. Cailloux Humane Society of Kerrville, Texas; or The Hill Country Youth Ranch of Ingram, Texas.\r\n \r\n[contact-form-7 id="73" title="Send Condolences"]
