Our sister in Christ, Billie Huffaker was called home on Thursday, September 24, 2015. Throughout her life Billie touched many lives through her love of education, community and family. She was the eldest child of Roy and Ann Huffaker born January 10, 1953 in Midland, Texas. With her parents traveling during the school year, Billie took on a parental role to her younger siblings. She invited Jesus into her heart and was baptized in a small Weatherford Baptist Church in the early 1960's.\r\n \r\nShe graduated from Tivy High School in 1972 on her dad's birthday. She received her Bachelor's degree in elementary education from Pan American College (later to become a University) and her Master's degree from Sul Ross University. She taught school at Leakey ISD and Rocksprings ISD where she became passionate for children with special needs. She pursued her career as an advocate for special needs children and their families in the Quinlan ISD, Region 10 Education Service Center in Dallas, Texas, TEA (Texas Education Administration) in Austin, and finally Leander ISD where she retired in 2013 after 30 years in public education.\r\n \r\nIn addition to multiple positions in the field of education, Billie served as Justice of the Peace in Edwards County for seven years.\r\n \r\nHer hobbies included cooking, canning, sewing, quilting, knitting and crocheting. She loved family gatherings, especially during the holidays.\r\n \r\nBillie is survived by brothers, David Huffaker of Kerrville and Gene Huffaker (Dene') of Mountain Home and sister, Frances Nix (Jerry), along with several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by daughter, Frances DaLayne Munson (Tim), son, McKenzie Jesse Fred (Monica) and two grandchildren along with numerous friends and colleagues.\r\n \r\nThere will be a private memorial service celebrating Billie's life.\r\n \r\nIn lieu of flowers, feel free to make a donation to a charity of your choice.\r\n
