Lt. Col. Wilbur 'Bill' Wetzel, USAF (Retired), passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, June 8, 2017 in Kerrville at the age of 93. He was born on July 3, 1923, in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma to Wilbur and Annie Sarrett Wetzel. \r\n \r\nHe proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, entering on July 22, 1948, and retiring from his duties on February 7, 1966. Bill proudly served his country during three wars and was stationed at various military facilities around the world. \r\n \r\nOn July 31, 1998, he married Claudia Ahrens in Fredericksburg. Bill is survived by his wife, Claudia Wetzel of Kerrville; his stepsons, Steven Ahrens and wife GiGi of Kerrville, Dennis Ahrens and wife Susan of Friendswood and Jerry Ahrens and wife Janice of Kerrville; grandchildren, Allison Ahrens and fiancé Cameron Nobile, Michelle Chaiken and husband Pat, Marshall Ahrens, Mitchell Ahrens, Banks Burrows, Alexis Burrows, and Brooks Burrows; and great grandson, William Chaiken. He is also survived by his grandson Sean Wetzel and his children. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Tye. \r\n \r\nA private service with full military honors will be held at a later date.\r\n
