Betty Ruth (Wansley) Hardin passed away peacefully on November 27, 2014 in Kerrville, Texas at 91 years of age. Betty Ruth was born March 18, 1923 to Dr. Reuben and Matie (Byars) Wansley. She was raised in Cleburne, Texas where her father practiced dentistry for 30 years. \r\n\r\nBetty Ruth Wansley met her future husband William ‘Bill' Hardin when they both attended Cleburne High School. She graduated from Baylor University in May of 1944 and was married to Bill in Sept. of 1944, when he was a sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Force. \r\n\r\nThey moved to Houston after Bill graduated from the University of Texas in 1949. Betty gave birth to Billy, Barbara, Bob, Brian and Beverly. After her youngest child started attending school, Betty became a substitute school teacher for several years in the Houston ISD. \r\n\r\nIn 1972, Betty and Bill moved to Kerrville after purchasing the Smokehouse news stand, book store and tobacco shop. Betty and Bill enjoyed their many years of operating the Smokehouse in downtown Kerrville. They became friends with many of their customers and fellow merchants. These friendships lasted long after Betty and Bill retired. \r\n\r\nBetty was preceded in death by her husband and parents. Survived by her children and spouses: William "Billy" Hardin, Barbara Terrazas (Julian), Robert "Bob" Hardin (Debra), Brian Hardin (Karen) and Beverly Fisher (Doss). Betty is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren.\r\n\r\nA memorial service for Betty is scheduled for January 16th at 2:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Kerrville with Rev. Dr. Rob Lohmeyer conducting the service. Reception will follow in Ryan Hall. A private interment will be at Garden of Memories. \r\n\r\nIn lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Kerrville. \r\n\r\n[contact-form-7 id="73" title="Send Condolences"]
