Bette Jo (Roberts) Koenig was born May 12, 1967, in Cuero, Texas and passed away February 17, 2024, at her home in Bandera, Texas.
Bette Jo was born to Bette Jean (Hudson) and Joe Elton Roberts. Her family moved to Corpus Christi, Texas where she graduated from Calallen High School in the spring of 1985.
Following her graduation, Bette Jo attended Texas A&I University in Kingsville, majoring in business administration. While enrolled, Bette became a member of the ROTC and completed the necessary training to acquire officer enlistment in the U.S. Army upon her college graduation in the spring of 1989. During her time in service, Bette Jo obtained the rank of first Lieutenant while being stationed in Germany. In addition, she spent time in Saudi Arabia during operation Desert Storm in the early 90s. Bette Jo was honorably discharged in 1992 and joined the US Department of Agriculture as a program technician for the Farm Service Agency (FSA) in Henrietta, Texas. She then became the County Executive Director for the Frio County Farm Service Agency. It was there she met Clint Koenig, who was the FSA County Executive Director for LaSalle County. The two became acquainted while driving to and attending required language classes for their jobs and that is how their story started. They married September 19, 1998, at Bandera United Methodist Church and just celebrated their 25th wedding Anniversary. After marriage, they built a home in Devine where they lived for several years. They had two children, Cord Wallace born in 2002 and Cade Leonard born in 2004.
Bette Jo left FSA to take care of her children and the family moved to Bandera, building a home on the family ranch. Bette Jo would eventually get her teaching certificate and joined Bandera ISD as a substitute then eventually a full-time teacher. Over the years, she taught a variety of subjects at both the elementary and middle school level. A staunch supporter of her kids, she could always be found giving encouragement, pushing them to be all they could be.
In 2021, she ended her school teaching career, and could be found at home making it beautiful with her outdoor plant landscaping, spending time with family and friends, and enjoying the company of her beloved dog Bentley.
Bette Jo is survived by her loving husband Clint, her two sons Cord and Cade, her mother Bette, her brother Mike Roberts and his wife Cindy, her brother Shawn Roberts and his wife Judy, and her sister Lynn Lussier and her husband Rocky, plus many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father, Joe Roberts. She will be greatly missed by all.
