Bernice Marie Machicek, age 75 of Kerrville, Texas passed away on October 1, 2014.\r\n \r\nShe was born on August 4, 1939 to Julius I. Trlica and Angelina G. Valigura Trlica. She married her lifelong sweetheart, husband and best friend James Machicek (PoPo) on October 31, 1959 in Moravia, Texas.\r\n \r\nShe went to school in Moravia, Texas and enjoyed playing sports, mainly volleyball and softball. Bernice worked while she waited for James to be done with his military service. She worked as an office worker at Weingarten's in Hallettsville, Texas. When James finished his military commitment in late 1958 the wedding plans were set. Bernice and James loved Czech Polka music and loved to go to dances with family and friends. She was an excellent cook following the great lines of cooks in her Czech Heritage. Both James's (Mary) and Bernice's (Angelina) mothers were excellent cooks and bakers. The Christmas goodies, kolache's, strudels, banana nut breads and cookies will be terribly missed. Her flowers and her green lawn will miss her tender care.\r\n \r\nBernice was always very family-oriented from her early days. She was the eldest of her four siblings. Being raised on a farm and being the oldest daughter, she helped take care of her younger brother and sisters. She is survived by her sisters, Dorothy Nowak of Houston, Jeanette Loewe of Hallettsville, Cheryl Schmidt of Schertz and brother, Daryl Trlica of Cypress, Texas.\r\n \r\nJames and Bernice believed in a strong family unit and once they got married moved to San Antonio and raised their family. Bernice was a stay-at-home mom. She was always very helpful to her neighbors and did volunteer work for various group's her four children belonged to. \r\n \r\nShe is survived by husband, James Machicek of Kerrville; her daughter, Susan Machicek-Buie (spouse Michael Buie), and three sons, Robert (spouse Jeannie), Craig (spouse Brenda Sue) and Brian (spouse Cyndy). Bernice has 9 grandchildren, Tiffany Schneider, Christopher Machicek, Tyler Machicek, Kayla Machicek, Brett Machicek, Josh Machicek, Sara Machicek, Morgan Buie and Bailey Buie. She also has 2 great grandchildren, Sidney and Reiken Schneider.\r\n \r\nThe family wishes to thank the great people at Ave Maria Hospice, especially nurse Tom Adams for the care he provided to our mother. We also want to thank the nurses and staff at Alpine Terrace Care Center, nurses Kali and Carrie, who made sure Mom was always comfortable. We are very thankful to God for putting these great people into our mother's life when we needed them most.\r\n \r\nA Rosary will be held at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville, Texas on Tuesday, October 7, 2014. Visitation will begin at 4:00 pm, the Rosary service at 6:00 pm led by Deacon Sonny Kaufold of Notre Dame Catholic Church. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at 10:00 am with Monsignor Michael Boulette presiding at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Kerrville, Texas.
