Bennie Honaker

Bennie Honaker, 85, passed away on April 3, 2020 peacefully at his home in Pipe Creek. He was born in Fork Ridge, VA. to Dewey Honaker and Mattie Brown on March 5, 1935. He married Fay Childs Johnson on July 17, 1982 in San Antonio, TX.\r\n\r\nHe left Garden High School in Oakwood, VA to join the Military and received his GED and numerous other schooling in the Air Force. He was a Veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars. Awards included the Air Force Commendation Medal, distinguished Flying Cross, 13th. Oak Leaf Cluster, Tactical Air Command, Combat Survival, marksmanship, Jungle Survival and 1000 hours in C-130 and many others too numerous to mention. After retirement, he worked for HEB maintaining their vehicles and eventually opened his own Garage & Towing Company. He and Fay were very involved in Bandera County EMS & received the VFW EMT of the Year award in 1992. He also received an award for getting Pipe Creek's first ambulance road worthy. For the last 7 years he played the guitar in the band at Church and loved it.\r\n\r\nBennie was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Doyle & Joe, sister Doris, daughter Kimberly, grandson Craig, Jr. and first wife, LaDeanne.\r\n\r\nBennie is survived by his wife of 38 years, Fay, son Craig, stepkids -Jeffrey Johnson, Elaina Johnson and Steve and Kendra Rico. Sisters-Adell Lipe, Ethel Minor and Bonnie Owens. In-laws - Geneva Hayes, Earl and Karen Childs and Col. Jimmie Childs. Grandchildren - Stanley and LeAnna Keith, Talicia Honaker, Clarissa Rodgers, William Rodgers, Billie Rodgers, 16 great-grans, his church family and numerous friends.\r\n\r\nA Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 18, 2020, 3:00 PM at Kendall County Cowboy Church, 605 FM 289, Comfort, Texas 78013.\r\nPastor Steve Gross will be officiating.\r\n\r\nThe family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Patricia Huff, GNP-BC at Kerrville VA, Sherri, Tina, Tin & Larry at Alamo Hospice, Amanda at Grimes who were Angels in disguise. Also Pastor Steve and our entire Church Family at Kendall County Cowboy Church and friends.
