Barbara Smith

January 22, 1932 — August 2, 2015

Barbara "Jean" Eltha Smith was called home to be with the Lord on August 2, 2015 at the age of 83. \r\n \r\nBorn to Curtis and Willie Smith, she was a lifelong resident of Kerrville, Texas. \r\n \r\nBarbara graduated from Tivy High School and pursued her dream of becoming a nurse. She worked for Sid Peterson Hospital for over 50 years. Her greatest loves were nursing, grandchildren, God and the Gaithers. Barbara worked as an LVN full time and many hours over time to become a registered nurse. Her passion for nursing promoted her into a highly respected supervisor. She once said one of the hardest things she ever had to do was retire from nursing. Barbara had a spunky but loving personality that attracted people instantly, and no one ever had to wonder what she was thinking. \r\n \r\nShe is survived by her siblings, Elsie Baker, Alexander Curtis Smith Jr. (Pat Smith), and Linda Lubojacky (Calvin Lubojacky); her children, Doris Lee, Billy Hughes (Carolyn Hughes) and Ronald Smith (Janice Smith); daughter in law, Susie Hughes; her stepson, Donald Smith (Davine Smith); 19 Grandchildren and 21 Great Grandchildren. \r\n \r\nShe is preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Charles Hughes Sr., her second husband, Graydon Smith, her sisters, Kathryn Bushey and Margie Pearce; her son, Charles Hughes Jr., and her great grandsons, Joshua and Isaiah Deal. \r\n \r\nVisitation will be at Grimes Funeral Chapels, Thursday, August 6, 2015 from 5-7 in the evening. \r\n \r\nServices will be held at Calvary Temple Church on Friday, August 7, 2015 at 10am. Pastors Heath Way, Max Dunks and David Cook will preside. Interment will follow at Nichols Cemetery.\r\n \r\n
