Barbara Rainey passed away May 22, 2016 in her Medina home. Barbara Anne was born in Ashdown, Arkansas on March 23, 1931 to Alva and Nina Freeman. She was married to Joseph Paul Rainey on September 19, 2011. \r\n\r\nBarbara graduated from Rockport High in 1949, and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in 1970 from the University of Corpus Christi, and her Master's Degree from Stephen F. Austin State University. A certified teacher, Barbara taught sixth grade reading at Arnold Junior High in Cypress, Texas for 12 years. Barbara also bred and raised horses and had several make it to the winner's circle on tracks in both Louisiana and Texas.\r\n\r\nAfter retirement, Barbara moved to Medina and became an active member of the community. She served as an officer in the Bandera Fine Arts League and served as President of the Rose Garden Club of Medina. An accomplished oil painter, Barbara taught classes in brush and pallet, and was a contributing artist on a mural in the children's section of the Medina Library. She attended many of the Utopia High school sports events with her husband Paul, as well as many of the local musical jam sessions.\r\n\r\nBarbara is preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Bernard Schrader, her second husband, Francis Alexander, her sister Mecca Newton, and a brother, Alva Freeman.\r\n\r\nBarbara is survived by her husband Paul Rainey, daughter Brenda Keller and her husband James Keller of Houston, and daughter Beverly Nault and her husband Gary Nault of Coronado, California. She also leaves two grandchildren, Lindsay Nault Valerio and her husband Joshua Valerio of Orange County, California, and Evan Nault and his wife, Kamie Tierce Nault of Phoenix, Arizona. Barbara's surviving siblings are Elizabeth Harris of Boerne, Texas, John Freeman and his wife Nancy of Bells, Tennessee, and Mary Patterson and her husband Gene, of Corinth, Mississippi. \r\n\r\nVisitation will be at Grimes Funeral Home on Monday evening, May 30 from 5-7. \r\n\r\nServices will be at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Utopia United Methodist Church, 571 Cypress Street, Utopia, Texas 78884 with Pastor Chuck Crane officiating followed by a brief graveside ceremony at Vanderpool Cemetery.\r\n\r\nPallbearers are James Keller, Gary Nault, Evan Nault, Joshua Valerio, Richard Mims, and Larry Sheppard.\r\n\r\nThe family suggests memorial donations to the Bandera EMS and the Medina, Texas Volunteer Fire Department, and wishes to thank them for their dedication and caring responses.\r\n
