Barbara Jean Arner Brewton, age 93 of Kerrville, passed away Thursday, August 25, 2016 at her residence. \r\n \r\nShe was born on November 4, 1922 in Houston, Texas to Robert Edward Arner Jr. and Eleanor Powers. Barbara was their only child. \r\n \r\nShe graduated from Sam Houston High School in Houston where she was a member of the then famed "Black Battalion" Drill Team. She met the only love of her life, David Rees Brewton, in Houston at a USO dance. They were married on January 3, 1941. After David served honorably for over 5 years in the Army Air Corps, David and Barbara moved to Kerrville, Texas in 1947. They both worked in the family business, the Kerr County Life Stock Commission Co. where Barbara worked in the office as a bookkeeper. In the 50's, Barbara worked as a bookkeeper at the Vogue Dress Shop and in the 60's, she worked as the General Ledger Bookkeeper at the First National Bank of Kerrville. She also was office manager through the mid 60's at the Schreiner Ford Dealership where David was the General Manager.\r\n \r\nBarbara and David were members of First Baptist Church of Kerrville. As past members of the Riverhill Country Club, they both played golf. She was a founding member and two term treasurer of the Kerr Arts and Cultural Center, and also a founding member of the HCAF Auxilliary and the Kerrville Art Club. In recent years, as a member of the Dietert Center, she enjoyed playing bridge and visiting with her friends.\r\n \r\nShe was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, David Rees Brewton Sr. in 2006.\r\n \r\nBarbara is survived by her three children, Donna Brewton (Thomas Mullins, deceased), David Jr. (Linnell), and Eleanor Zuchelkowski (George) and her sister-in-law, Brooksie Bledsoe. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.\r\n \r\nViewing will be at Grimes Funeral Chapels, Kerrville, Texas with a visitation with family on Monday, August 29, 2016 from 5-7 PM. A private burial service is planned on a later date for the immediate family.\r\n \r\nIn lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the KACC, Dietert Center and/or Peterson Hospice.\r\n \r\nPhoto courtesy of SJ Derby.\r\n
