Ascencion Cortinas Sosa

July 27, 1929 — January 25, 2025

Surrounded by her children, Mrs. Sosa passed away peacefully on January 25, 2025. She was born on July 27, 1929 in San Antonio, Texas. She is survived by her children, Aurora L Sosa, Arturo G. Sosa Jr, Adela S. Walsleben (Timothy); her grandchildren, Derrick A Walsleben, Michael G. Walsleben (Ashley), and her great grandchildren, Waverley Walsleben and Sloane Walsleben, as well as many family members and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arturo G. Sosa Sr; her parents, Miguel and Aurora Cortinas; her brothers, Miguel, Esteban, Rudolfo and Estavan Cortinas; her sisters, Adelina Duff, Aurora Blakney and Angela Mayers, as well as many in-laws, nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Mrs. Sosa and family were and are long time residents of San Antonio, Texas and Pipe Creek, Texas. Mrs. Sosa graduated from Brackenridge High School and from Draughn's Business College, both in San Antonio, Texas. She worked at Kelly Air Force Base for several years. She especially loved working with her dearest friend, Mrs. Olga Perez, at Elizondo’s Flower Shop for over 40 years.

Mrs. Sosa was filled with unconditional love, and kindness, gracing this world with her presence for 95 remarkable years. She was a very spiritual woman, and her life journey was a testament to her faith, hard work, and unwavering love for her husband, family, friends and community. She was the last member of a large family of remarkable strength and resilience who despite poverty and adversity, lived with incredible generosity, joy, and belief in God. Music holds a special place in our family and in her heart and soul. She loved to sing, play the piano and dance. She loved all kinds of music and most especially traditional Mexican music. She had one of the best “gritos” we’ve ever heard, and she never hesitated to express herself musically! She brought laughter and joy to many family gatherings. She was also an adventurer at heart. She loved archeology, collecting rocks and enjoyed many trips to Mexico exploring the various indigenous ruins and learning about their respective mythology. She loved road trips across the US with her husband and she especially loved the Texas Hill country and wildflowers. She loved baseball and the SPURS! She was a true South Texas Woman!

As we remember her, we celebrate a life well-lived, a love well-shared, and a legacy that will continue to inspire for generations to come. She was a precious, beautiful and loving wife, mother, sister, a loyal friend, and a gracious soul, who will forever be cherished and will never be forgotten. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her and we will miss her tremendously.

Our deep appreciation to the medical staff at Whidbey Health, Coupeville, WA for their tenderness and supportive care.
