Albert O. (Jack) Spencer Jr., 88 of Kerrville, passed away Friday, August 26, 2016 at Brookdale Skilled Nursing Facility. He was born September 25, 1927, to Albert and Madeline (Smith) Spencer in Junction City, Kansas graduating from Junction City High School.\r\n \r\nDue to a high school football injury that left him blind in his left eye, he was unable to serve in the military. After 10 years of retail sales, he spent 30 years in Government service living in Kansas, Nebraska, Texas, Tennessee and Michigan. He retired to Kerrville in January 1987. His job, sales of government surplus property, mainly to auctions, required travel to Puerto Rico, the Canal Zone, Hawaii, Germany, Japan, Korea, Easter Island, the Philippines, and throughout the U.S.\r\n \r\nHe began his career as a mechanics helper for the US Army at Ft. Riley, Kansas. He moved up the ranks to HQ DRMS as the National Auction Program Master where he trained auctioneers and conducted Government auctions within and outside of the United States. Jack and his wife, Phyllis, retired and located to Kerrville in 1987.\r\n \r\nJack was a "people" person, loved to visit, tell jokes, and socialize. He liked "Big Band" music, bowling, and golf, which he took up full time upon retirement and scored two "hole in ones". He is a graduate from the Kerrville Citizens Police Academy and volunteered at Peterson Hospital for eight years.\r\n \r\nHe was a life-long member of the Episcopal Church and was involved with their various activities as Layreader, Choir member, and Usher, wherever he lived.\r\n \r\nJack was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Madeline; his sister, Virginia Lee; and his brother, Ed.\r\n \r\nJack is survived by Phyllis, his wife of 68 years; children: Nancy Cullum of Leander and Janet Patton (David) of Barksdale; grandchildren: Jason Morley of College Station, Justin Morley (Kimber) of New Braunfels, Stacy Patton (Rod Anderson) of Austin, Sara Kureska (Kirk) of Boerne, Kelcy Kalytka (Gordon) of Leander, Spencer Cullum of Oregon, and Robert Patton of Ft. Worth; and 13 great-grandchildren.\r\n \r\nFuneral services will be at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with Father Tom Murray officiating.\r\n \r\nIn lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to: Peterson Hospice, Peterson Hospital Volunteers, St. Peter's Episcopal Church, or a charity of your choice.\r\n
