Alan M.D.

Alan Edward King, M.D., age 81 of Center Point, passed away Monday, April 3, 2017 in Kerrville, Texas. He was born to Frances L. King and Wilhemina E. "Goeckel" King on May 24th, 1935 in the Queens Borough of New York City. Alan's father was a door-to-door insurance salesman and his mother, a homemaker. Despite these humble beginnings, Alan, his older brother William "Bill" and his sister Madeline all matriculated in advanced studies with William and Alan becoming medical doctors and his sister Madeline, a lauded principal within the educational system of Rockaway, New Jersey.\r\n \r\nAlan's undergraduate degree was satisfied at St. John's College, New York prior to his entering and graduating from New York Medical College. From there Alan entered the Navy and was transferred into the Marine Corp, serving in 1968 as a front-line positioned physician, receiving and aiding the wounded warriors during the Tet offensive.\r\n \r\nUpon discharge Alan began his private practice on the West Coast but in 1984, as a general surgeon, joined the Kerrville VA hospital staff where he continued for more than thirty (30) years, retiring recently. He took delight in dressing elegantly each day and donning his starched white coat.\r\n \r\nAlan is survived by his wife, Pamela Rae King, his seven children and five (5) grandchildren: Karen Rezza (Rich), Allison Chamberlin (Chris), Jennifer Kamens (Art), Alane King, Paul King, Jennifer King and John King. Alan was particularly close to his brother Bill's family, Liz Henckel (Bruce), Billy King, M.D., Mary Pruitt (Tom) and his nephew, Matt Cahill (Judy), surviving son of Alan's beloved sister, Madeline.\r\n \r\nAlan enjoyed practicing medicine and dedicated his life to helping others. He loved his horse, Mac, his two dogs Red and Dum Dum and put up with Pam's many rescued cats. He loved fishing, hunting, gardening, going to the coast, where when he was not piloting his boat, was kissing it.\r\n \r\nThe family wishes to give heartfelt thanks to all the supportive staff at the Kerrville VA facility, particularly Dr.s Martin and Shimotsu and their teams. He often exclaimed how lucky he was to have the nurses that aided and befriended him over his years of practice, including but not limited to Trish, Cookie, Wendy, David Fry and his long-time coordinator, Claudia. \r\n \r\nMemorial services will be held at a later date.\r\n \r\nIn lieu of flowers, the family would prefer contributions to the Hill Country Shooting Sports Center, Kerrville in support of our aspiring Olympic shooters or any charity of choice.\r\n
